Firefighters at Station #1 come from all walks of life. What they share is a commitment to their neighbors and to training.

No experience needed. Apply as a Trainee Firefighter and we train you. Already Firefighter I & II certified? Apply as a Firefighter.

We don't run medical calls. Station #1 is a fire department, not a medical first responder department. EMT and first-aid training are welcome, but you won't be running medical calls with us.

How it works

  1. Apply online — six short steps, about 10 minutes. You get an application number by email.
  2. The Fire Chief and Assistant Chief read every application themselves.
  3. If we'd like you to join us, we'll talk. Joining depends on passing a background check.

What we ask of you

  • Be at least 18, with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Be able to reach Station #1 in a reasonable time when paged. You don't have to live in the township.
  • Complete state Firefighter I & II certification within two years of joining.
  • Train weekly at Station #1: Mondays, 6:30–8:30 PM.
  • Take part in the department's annual physical once you're a member.

We are a volunteer department, so applications are reviewed around everyone's jobs and it may be a few weeks before you hear from us. We will be in touch either way. Can't use the online form? Email info@sjctfd.org and we'll send you a paper copy.
